When Carroll County made the switch to Clear Ballot in 2019 for in-person voting, former Director of Elections Nicole Mickley was new to her role but felt confident that the Clear Ballot customer success team would support her in running a smooth election.

During election season, the ClearVote system has helped Carroll County save time while running a smooth election. The county uses the ClearCount tabulation software and built-in write-in tool to make sure that every vote is counted accurately and based on a voter’s intent.

“The write-in tool is fantastic. At the end of the night, we used to have to sort out every ballot with write-ins, and it used to take so much time,” said Nicole. “Clear Ballot has improved that by allowing us to view the images and then with the write-in tool, you just sort by the bucket. It makes it straight-forward and we can then focus on just determining intent. It’s faster, easier, and fun.”

“The entire adjudication process is awesome,” said Nicole. “Being able to pick out the least confident vote, pulling up the whole ballot to find patterns, and being able to determine voter intent. Our vote counts get more accurate the more we learn and use the software. It helps me feel confident that the voter intent is being captured.” 

Clear Ballot’s emphasis on customer support coupled with a commitment to working collaboratively with customers to make product improvements has led to a great working relationship between Carroll County and the Clear Ballot team.

“I can’t imagine working with any other company on a product level. Clear Ballot is leaps and bounds ahead on the system and service level,” said Nicole. “If I have feedback on products, I know it will get listened to, not just during election season. It’s not always doable but I feel like it’s always given proper consideration and thought.”
