BOSTON, MA -- Clear Ballot announced today that the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC) has federally certified ClearVote 2.5.  The new release includes the certification of ClearMark, Clear Ballot’s revolutionary ballot marking device first used in New York and extensively tested by the renowned Perkins School for the Blind. ClearVote 2.5 is also Clear Ballot’s first federally certified release to support the administration of Ranked Choice Voting.

Clear Ballot currently operates in 14 states and supports over 45 million voters. With each new release, Clear Ballot has been committed to working alongside their partners to implement recommendations and new features at the request of counties, including the new Ranked Choice Voting functionality.

“We are proud to bring ClearVote 2.5 to counties nationwide who are looking for a truly transparent voting system that allows all voters to cast a voter-verifiable paper ballot while embracing modern technology,” said Clear Ballot CEO Bob Hoyt.

The ClearVote system offers a fully verifiable paper ballot for all voters, whether they mark their ballots by hand or using the ClearMark ballot marking device. All voters receive undifferentiated ballots, and the system never uses barcodes, QR codes, OCR, or summary ballots, making it fully compliant with the most recent Presidential Executive Order.

Following its EAC certification, Clear Ballot will bring ClearVote 2.5 to states across the country, with jurisdictions able to upgrade or purchase the new system in late 2025 and early 2026. ClearVote 2.5 represents Clear Ballot’s sixth federally certified release in the last seven years and is the company’s final VVSG 1.0 certified system before launching a VVSG 2.0 certified product line in the near future.
