When it came time to upgrade the county’s voting system in 2023, election officials in Onondaga County looked for a user-friendly option that would improve the election experience for county staff, poll workers, and voters.
“We’ve heard a lot of feedback back from inspectors and voters. They’re very happy with the system, it’s very easy to use,” said Republican Commissioner Michele Sardo.
The county shared that along with being convenient and practical for voters, the system’s ease of use made for a straightforward training process. “ClearVote has made it a lot easier for training. We now only have two people in our polling places setting up machines as opposed to three to four that we had before. The systems themselves are easier for the voters to use, especially the ClearMark system which is, you know, kind of a big leap for us in terms of what we had before,” said Democratic Commissioner Dustin Czarny.
Despite making the switch to a new system midyear, Clear Ballot and the Onondaga County team partnered together to ensure a smooth transition. “We were able to bring in the new machines, get them tested, conduct our first logic and accuracy tests, train all of our inspectors on them, and be ready for a General Election with a two month lead up time,” said Czarny.
Making the switch to ClearVote not only provided Onondaga County with a new election system, but allowed the county to continue receiving the excellent support from Clear Ballot’s professional services team that they had experienced as an audit partner. “The customer support team has been great in getting back to us in a timely manner and giving us reasonable and usable solutions. We’re excited to continue to move forward with the Clear Ballot system and I’m very satisfied with our transition and very hopeful for the future,” said Czarny. “We cannot wait to see what the future holds for us,” added Sardo.
