When Schuyler County set out to purchase a new voting system, two of the most important features they were looking for were ease of use for pollworkers and voters and a state-of-the-art election management system for Schuyler County staff. After encountering challenges with previous technology that was overly complex, the county sought a more streamlined solution that every member of the office could easily understand and operate. 

Choosing the right voting system was no small task, but the eight person committee did a full evaluation and ultimately chose Clear Ballot for many reasons, including exceptional customer support and attentiveness during the selection process, but most importantly the superior, modern technology in the ClearVote system. “With Clear Ballot, the word ‘no’ doesn’t exist. There’s always a way to reach the end goal,” said Schuyler County Democratic Commissioner Brian Eslinger. “Technology is changing, and Clear Ballot is not sitting back. Everything we wanted them to be and do, they are,” he added.  

The county’s decision was also impacted by key features available in ClearVote that would make their operations easier, including a user-friendly display, write-in ballot capability, streamlined data collection, and intuitive ballot design software. With a large senior population in the county, accessibility and clarity were critical, and the county found both in ClearMark. Hearing firsthand why other counties made the switch was instrumental in guiding Schuyler County’s choice, and the county reached out to several of the 15 other New York counties who had transitioned from other vendors.

Ultimately after Schuyler County conducted their first election using Clear Ballot, Eslinger confirmed they made the right decision but especially appreciated the ease of use for loading results on election night, in addition to the praise the ClearVote system received from poll workers, voters, and election administration staff. “Everything we wanted our new system to do, this system did it flawlessly,” he said.
