When Mae Watson, the Town Clerk of Breckenridge, was informed by her county that she would no longer be able to coordinate with the county to run their April elections, she knew that she had to find a reliable and affordable partner. After hearing about Clear Ballot’s elections as a service offering, Watson reached out to her surrounding town clerks and offered up a unique proposition: sharing the cost and tabulation equipment for their April elections with the help of Clear Ballot.
Clear Ballot’s team helped Breckenridge and four other small towns find a flexible and affordable solution where they could rent hardware certified by the State of Colorado, work with the towns’ trusted print vendors, and run a secure and efficient election. Clear Ballot’s Colorado team helped support the towns through programming, testing, and wrapping up the election.

Using Clear Ballot’s hardware and software, Watson and her team were able to process ballots far faster than counting by hand and without putting strain on the town budget. Watson hopes to be able to partner with Clear Ballot in future elections, and she thinks the coordinated use of Clear Ballot hardware offers is a unique model that could be beneficial to other smaller municipalities. That coordination with towns is also helping as Clear Ballot grows their partnerships with local Colorado counties, helping clerks get a sneak peek of the equipment that may be coming to their primary and general elections in the coming years.
